Nous Research Opens Hermes Agent Tools to X Premium+ Grok Subscribers

Source: xAI

On May 15-16, 2026, Nous Research and xAI shipped an OAuth integration that lets X Premium+ subscribers use their existing X subscription inside Hermes Agent — without paying separately for Grok API access. The launch is the largest single update to Hermes Agent since Nous Portal opened in April, and it brings Grok 4.3, Grok TTS, Grok Imagine (image and video), and X real-time search into Hermes's tool surface.

How It Works

X Premium+ users connect through the standard OAuth flow documented in the upstream xAI Grok OAuth guide. There's no API key to copy — Hermes redirects to xAI, the user grants access, and the subscription is wired into the agent's provider list. After that, Grok models appear in Hermes's model picker alongside Claude, GPT, Gemini, and the Nous-hosted models.

What You Get

  • Grok 4.3 — xAI's flagship model for text conversation and advanced reasoning
  • Grok TTS — speech synthesis routed through the same subscription
  • Grok Imagine — image and short-video generation
  • X search tool — real-time search over X posts, which positions Hermes uniquely against agent frameworks that only have generic web search

Why It Matters

For X Premium+ subscribers who were already paying $40/mo for Grok, the value proposition is simple: that subscription now runs an agent end-to-end without a second bill. The X search tool in particular changes the kind of work Hermes can do well — live social-trend monitoring, news synthesis, and conversation analysis become first-class tasks instead of approximations through generic web crawlers.

The integration also signals where Nous Research is positioning Hermes: not as a wrapper over a single model lab, but as a router that any subscription-based AI provider can plug into. TestingCatalog summarized the dynamic on launch day: “It is not just OpenClaw vs Hermes anymore. It is OpenAI vs xAI once again.”

Trying It

If you have Hermes Agent installed locally, run hermes setup and pick xAI Grok from the provider list to walk through the OAuth flow. For users who do not want to manage a Hermes server, OpenClaw Launch runs Nous Hermes models on managed OpenClaw infrastructure today via OpenRouter; native Hermes framework hosting (which would accept the Grok OAuth flow directly) is in private beta.
