What Is BytePlus?

BytePlus is ByteDance’s international cloud services platform, offering AI and machine learning capabilities — including the Seedance family of video generation models — to developers outside of China. ByteDance is the company behind TikTok, and its video AI research is among the most advanced in the industry.

The Seedance models excel at generating high-quality, temporally consistent short videos from text prompts or reference images. BytePlus exposes these models through a pay-as-you-go REST API accessible with a bp-... key.

What Your BytePlus Key Unlocks

Once your BytePlus key is saved on the API Keys page, the following model becomes available in your OpenClaw instance’s video settings:

• Seedance 1.5 Pro (byteplus/seedance-1-5-pro-251215) — ByteDance’s flagship text-to-video model, capable of generating cinematic-quality short clips from natural language prompts.

Select Seedance 1.5 Pro in your instance’s video model picker after saving the key. Charges appear on your BytePlus account at BytePlus pay-as-you-go rates.

How to Get a BytePlus API Key

1. Go to the BytePlus docs portal — Open docs.byteplus.com and navigate to the API Keys or account section.
2. Create or sign into your BytePlus account — Register with an email address. Business verification may be required depending on your region.
3. Enable the Visual Intelligence or Video Generation service— BytePlus organizes its AI services by product line. Locate the Seedance / Video Generation product and activate it for your account.
4. Generate an API key — Navigate to Access Control or API Keys in the console, create a new key, and copy it. Your key will start with bp-.
5. Note your key prefix — BytePlus keys start with bp-. Store your key securely; treat it like a password.
6. Add billing credits — Top up your BytePlus account balance before making generation requests.

Add It on OpenClaw Launch

1. Sign in at openclawlaunch.com and open the API Keys page.
2. Find the BytePlus card, paste your bp-... key, and click Save. OpenClaw Launch validates the key against BytePlus live before storing it.
3. In your running OpenClaw instance’s settings, open the video model picker and select Seedance 1.5 Pro. The key applies immediately — no redeploy needed.

Your key is encrypted at rest and scoped to your account. It applies to all your existing running OpenClaw instances the moment you save it.

Troubleshooting

401 Unauthorized / Invalid Key

• Verify your key starts with bp-. If it does not, you may have copied the wrong credential from the BytePlus console.
• Check for trailing spaces or newlines. BytePlus keys are case-sensitive.
• If you regenerated the key in the BytePlus console, update it on the API Keys page to overwrite the old entry.

Model Not Found or Generation Fails

• Confirm you have activated the Video Generation (Seedance) product in your BytePlus console. A valid key alone is not enough — the service must also be enabled for your account.
• Check your BytePlus account balance. Insufficient credits will cause generation requests to fail even when the key is valid.

Quota or Rate Limit Errors

• BytePlus enforces per-account rate limits on video generation. If you receive 429 errors or “quota exceeded” responses, wait before retrying. Video generation is resource-intensive and queues can build during peak hours.
• Contact BytePlus support to request a higher quota limit for your account if you consistently hit rate limits.
