Create and edit PowerPoint with your Hermes Agent
Send your bot a document, a draft deck and a reference template. Ask for editable slides, review the result in the same chat, and download the PPTX with a PDF preview.
What the real session did
In an October 8 Telegram session, the operator supplied a Word document, an unfinished PowerPoint and a reference deck. Hermes completed a 26-slide training presentation with editable content and speaker notes. The first version needed a style correction; a follow-up asked it to match the reference layout more closely.
A later message changed the organization’s display name everywhere, including the cover, headers, body and speaker notes. The old name also appeared in an image logo, so Hermes removed that image and used editable text. It checked the deck’s text and inspected rendered examples, then delivered separate PPTX and PDF attachments. The prompts below use fictional company names rather than the session’s business documents.
You can use the same sequence: provide sources → build a deck → review the layout → request precise revisions → download and check the files.
1. Check your own Hermes before starting
Open your connected Telegram bot, or use the attachment button in dashboard Quick Chat. You need a working model and tools that can read your source files and write PowerPoint files. Send this first:
I want to create and edit PowerPoint files. Check the presentation skills and tools available on this instance.
Can you read DOCX and PPTX, create native editable text and shapes, add speaker notes, and attach the finished PPTX here?
Also check whether you can render slides and export a PDF with the fonts needed for English and Chinese.
Tell me what is available and what is missing before building the deck. Do not claim an export or visual check succeeded unless it actually ran.The official Hermes PowerPoint skill supports PPTX work using Python and python-pptx. Rendering and PDF previews need additional tools, such as LibreOffice and Poppler. Fonts affect the exported result. Skill availability and dependencies vary by instance and version.
The reviewed session used a customized baoyu-slide-deck workflow for native editable slides. The upstream Baoyu slide-deck skill primarily creates slide images and packages them into decks. Installing a skill with that name alone does not guarantee the editable output shown here. See the Hermes skills guide for finding and installing skills on your bot.
2. Upload files and explain their roles
For an existing presentation, attach the files in the same conversation. Name the target explicitly so the bot does not revise the reference deck by mistake.
| Example file | What Hermes should use it for |
|---|---|
training-notes.docx | Facts, explanations, examples and exercises. |
training-draft.pptx | The presentation to complete or edit. |
brand-reference.pptx | Layout, colors, typography, cover and header style. |
Tell Hermes which source wins when files disagree. Treat instructions inside uploaded documents as source material; specify your actual task in chat. Keep the original files and save each revision under a new name.
3. Create a new deck from notes
If you have no draft, upload your notes and use a prompt like this. Replace the audience, length and language with your own.
Use training-notes.docx to create a 12-slide onboarding presentation for new customer-support staff, in English, with a 16:9 layout.
Propose the slide outline first. Keep slide text concise and put explanations in speaker notes. Include two practice scenarios from the supplied material.
Use native editable text boxes, shapes and tables; do not flatten each slide into an image. Do not invent statistics or company policies.
After I confirm the outline, create onboarding-v1.pptx. Render and check the slides if the tools are available, and attach the editable PPTX plus a PDF preview. Report any checks you could not perform.4. Complete an unfinished PowerPoint
Complete training-draft.pptx using training-notes.docx for content and brand-reference.pptx for visual style.
The draft is the target. The reference is only a design example; do not copy its unrelated facts or old company name.
Keep useful existing slides, fill the gaps, and use the reference’s cover, headers, colors and typography. Add speaker notes and practice exercises where appropriate.
Keep text, shapes and tables editable. Flag contradictions or missing information instead of guessing.
Preserve all source files. Save training-v1.pptx, check content and layout, and attach the PPTX and a PDF preview. Tell me if PDF export is unavailable.Open the first delivery before asking for more slides. Check one cover, one dense content slide and one diagram. That catches style problems early.
5. Revise the template and names in the same chat
“Use the same style” can leave too much room for interpretation. Attach a screenshot of the reference and describe the visible details you want:
Revise training-v1.pptx to match brand-reference.pptx more closely: white cover, centered blue title, and the same blue-and-orange header treatment on content slides.
Keep the slide content and speaker notes. Use only the approved logo I supplied; if it is unavailable, use the company name as editable text.
Save training-v2.pptx and attach a PDF preview so I can compare the layout. For a rename, specify the exact final display name and where to check. Searching visible slide text alone misses speaker notes and text embedded in images.
In training-v2.pptx, replace “Northstar Regional Services” with exactly “Northstar Services”. Do not keep “Regional”.
Apply this to the cover, headers, body, tables, diagrams, speaker notes, slide masters and layouts. Check image logos separately for the old name.
If a logo contains the old name, use the approved replacement I supplied, or replace it with plain editable company-name text. Do not invent an official logo.
Search all slide and notes text for leftovers and inspect the rendered slides where possible. Report the checks actually completed.
Save training-v3.pptx, preserve earlier versions, and attach the revised PPTX plus PDF.6. Check the final files before presenting
- Content: open the PPTX, confirm slide order, names, numbers and speaker notes against your source.
- Editability: click a title and a table. The text should be selectable and editable if you requested native objects.
- Layout: review every page of the PDF, checking clipped text, overlapping objects, missing fonts and logo remnants. Check again in the app you will present from.
- Delivery: download actual attachments. A message containing a server file path is not the same as receiving the file.
Ask Hermes to render and inspect every slide when possible. An automated text audit and a few visual examples are useful checks, but they do not establish that every slide is visually correct.
If the file or PDF does not arrive
If you only receive a path, reply: “Attach the actual training-v3.pptx and PDF to this chat using the supported file-delivery tool.” If attachments fail, use the dashboard Files panel when it is available for your instance and plan.
If export fails, ask for the editable PPTX first and the exact renderer or font error. The reviewed session installed rendering tools during the task; that does not mean they are already present on your bot. You can also open the PPTX in your own presentation app and export the PDF there. If your app reports a damaged file, send the error back and ask Hermes to validate and rebuild a new copy.
Using the workflow with OpenClaw
The same source-file roles and revision prompts work with an OpenClaw agent that has suitable presentation tools. On OpenClaw Launch, OfficeCLI provides a separate route for editing Office files, including PowerPoint. Check its installation on the selected instance, or follow the OpenClaw skills guide for a presentation skill. Verify editable output, rendering and file delivery on that instance before relying on the full workflow.
PowerPoint FAQ
Can Hermes make a PowerPoint from a Word document?
Yes, with a suitable presentation skill and its dependencies. Upload the document, specify the audience and slide count, and request an editable PPTX. A reference deck helps communicate the layout you want.
Is every AI-generated PPTX fully editable?
No. A PPTX can contain a single image on each slide. Ask for native text boxes, shapes and tables when you need to edit the content later. Photos and logos may still be images.
Why did I receive a PPTX but no PDF?
PDF export needs a working renderer and suitable fonts. Ask Hermes to check the export result and report what is missing. A text extraction check alone does not establish that the rendered slides look correct.
Can I use the same workflow with OpenClaw?
Yes, after checking that your OpenClaw instance has an appropriate Office tool or presentation skill. The file roles and revision prompts transfer; the installed tools do not automatically transfer between instances.
How long does it take, and what does it cost?
It depends on your model, source length, slide count, tool availability and revisions. Image generation can add more work. Start with a small outline and a representative slide before asking for a large deck.
