Meta Muse vs Hermes Agent: What Each One Is, and Where They Overlap
“Meta Muse” and “Hermes Agent” keep turning up in the same searches, and it is easy to assume they are connected. They are not. Meta Muse is Meta’s hosted personal agent. Hermes Agent is Nous Research’s open-source agent framework that you run yourself or have hosted. This guide explains the difference and shows how Hermes handles the recurring, multi-step creative work people often go looking for.
Which “Muse” are you looking for?
Meta uses the Muse name for several things, and we cover each on its own page:

What Meta Muse is
Meta announced Muse on September 8, 2026 as a personal agent powered by Muse Spark, launching in the US through Meta’s mobile apps, the web and WhatsApp, with free access and subscription options. Meta describes it carrying out tasks for the user, with a browser, a terminal, generated tools and interactive outputs, plus work that continues on schedules and events. It runs on Meta’s own hosted infrastructure.
We have not benchmarked Muse hands-on. Everything above comes from Meta’s published material, and features that Meta has not documented are not listed here. In particular, the launch sources do not describe a third-party model picker or a self-hosted version.
What Hermes Agent is
Hermes Agent is an open-source agent framework from Nous Research. It runs as a long-lived gateway connected to Telegram, Discord, Slack and other platforms, with persistent memory, installable skills, a cron scheduler and a model you choose from many providers. You can self-host it from the upstream repo or use a managed host.
The difference is structural. Muse is a finished product with Meta’s choices built in. Hermes is a framework you configure: which model, which chat app, which tools, which machine. More control, more setup.

Creative work: a one-shot tool vs an ongoing workflow
A lot of creative-AI searching is really about repetition: the same kind of image every week, a caption for every new post, a short clip for every product update. A tool that answers a single prompt handles one of those. An agent can own the whole loop — gather the input, generate, check, deliver, and do it again on schedule.
That loop is where Hermes fits. The pieces upstream ships:
- Image generation — the
image_generatetool, backed directly by FAL when aFAL_KEYis set, or by a managed provider. See fal.ai with Hermes Agent. - Video generation — a video tool that dispatches to a provider plugin. Hermes ships no built-in video provider, so you enable one and select it in
hermes tools. - Creative skills — bundled skills for diagrams, infographics, Manim and p5.js animation, ASCII video and songwriting.
- Cron — scheduled jobs that can attach skills and deliver the result to a chat platform.
Hermes does not make the pictures better by itself. Output quality comes from the model or provider you connect. What Hermes adds is the part around generation: the schedule, the memory of what you liked last time, and delivery to where you will see it.
A worked example: a weekly visual on autopilot

The gateway has to be running for jobs to fire, which is why always-on hosting matters for this kind of work. And a job with no pinned model runs on whatever your main model is when it fires, so pin one if a job must stay consistent. More recipes are in Hermes Agent use cases.
Using a Meta model inside Hermes
If what drew you to Muse was Meta’s model rather than Meta’s app, you can combine it with Hermes instead: a Meta model with Hermes’s tools, channels and schedules. Muse Spark is reachable through OpenRouter, and Muse Glimmer is an open-weight model you can run locally. Setup, model IDs and pricing caveats are in Hermes + Muse Spark and Hermes + Muse Glimmer. This does not recreate the Muse product — its apps, permission system and hosted runtime stay Meta’s.
The OpenClaw side

Running Hermes without a server
Scheduled creative jobs only work if the agent is online when they are due. OpenClaw Launch runs Hermes Agent or OpenClaw for you, with chat platforms connected from a dashboard and a model picker for the provider you prefer. Is Meta Muse built on Hermes Agent?
No. Hermes Agent is an open-source agent framework from Nous Research. Meta Muse is a personal agent from Meta, announced on September 8, 2026 and described by Meta as powered by its own Muse Spark model. They share a search results page, not a codebase, a company or a runtime.
Can I run Meta Muse inside Hermes Agent?
Not the Muse product. Muse runs on Meta’s own apps and hosted runtime. What you can do is run a Meta model inside Hermes where one is available through a provider, for example Muse Spark via OpenRouter or the open-weight Muse Glimmer on your own hardware. Is Hermes Agent good for creative work like images and video?
Hermes is an agent rather than a generator, so its strength is the workflow around creative output. It ships an image_generate tool (backed by FAL or a managed provider), a video generation tool that uses a provider plugin you enable, creative skills for things like diagrams and Manim animations, and a cron scheduler that can deliver results to a chat platform. Does this work with OpenClaw too?
Yes, the same split applies. OpenClaw is also an open agent framework, unrelated to Meta Muse. It has a scheduler (openclaw cron), skills and chat channels, so a recurring creative workflow can be built on it as well. Should I choose Meta Muse or Hermes Agent?
Pick Muse if you want an integrated consumer assistant from Meta with the product decisions made for you.
