Direct an original short film with Lemo-Opuscar and Hermes

Choose from 43 visual styles, then develop a story, camera language, sound and subtitle plan. The offline catalog edition prepares your production brief.

Edition reviewed October 12, 2026: lemo-opuscar-direction. This is the audited offline direction edition, with no renderer or bootstrap script.

What Lemo-Opuscar helps you decide

A short film needs more than a list of attractive shots. It needs an opening question, a turning point and an ending, with camera movement and sound serving the same idea. Lemo-Opuscar provides 43 style references to help Hermes turn your topic into that plan.

The bundled index includes Art Deco, Blueprint, Paper Pop-up Book, Chinese Ink Wash, 1920s Silent Film, Swiss Motion Graphics and other directions. Pick one by name or slug, or ask Hermes to compare two or three. Read the selected card rather than combining every style into one film.

The pinned upstream Lemo-Opuscar project includes a broader executable production workflow. Our catalog edition adapts its direction documents and excludes the bootstrap, rendering pipeline and demo assets. Use the catalog installation below for this edition.

1. Install the film direction edition

  1. Sign in and open dashboard Skills.
  2. Select your running Hermes instance. Start it from the dashboard if it is stopped.
  3. Search for Lemo-Opuscar and find Lemo-Opuscar — Film Direction Edition.
  4. Open Preview and check for lemo-opuscar-direction, 43 bundled style references, and the planning-only scope.
  5. Click Install, wait for success and confirm the skill appears in Installed for the same Hermes instance.

You can read the public skill description before installing. For Hermes, use dashboard Skills: the public page’s instance picker does not offer Hermes bots. A successful install registers the package; your first request should still confirm that Hermes can read the relevant reference.

2. Choose a style that serves the story

Bundled styleExample useDirection to request
Paper Pop-up Book (paper-popup)A small discovery story.Make a page turn or unfolding shape reveal new information.
Blueprint (blueprint)Explain how a mechanism fits together.Keep labels, geometry and the assembly sequence readable.
1920s Silent Film (silent-film)A visual joke without spoken dialogue.Use framing, pauses and short intertitles to carry the story.
Swiss Motion Graphics (swiss-motion)A concise graphic announcement.Make typographic hierarchy and movement clarify the message.

These are suggestions for your brief, not rendered demonstrations. Tell Hermes what the audience must understand and which assets you already own. A named style sets visual principles; it does not authorize copying a demo’s characters, composition or soundtrack.

3. Turn a brief into a treatment and shot list

Use the installed lemo-opuscar-direction skill and its bundled paper-popup style card.
Plan an original 30-second, 9:16 short film in English for a community library. Message: a borrowed book can open a new world. The ending should invite viewers to visit their local library; do not invent opening hours or membership terms.
Propose three story structures and choose one with a reason. Then deliver a logline, treatment and timed shot list with framing, camera movement, narrative purpose, narration, subtitles and transitions.
Add a sound cue map covering ambience, foley, music, silence and narration ducking. List original or licensed assets still needed.
Deliver the plan in chat. Do not install tools, download assets, access accounts or render an MP4.

A useful treatment tells you what changes during the film. For this fictional brief, a closed book might become an unfolding world and return to a recognizable library at the end. Ask for a signature shot that advances that story, rather than adding spectacle without a purpose.

4. Check timing, sound and subtitles together

An illustrative 30-second structure could allocate 0–5 seconds to the closed-book hook, 5–13 to the first reveal, 13–22 to a discovery, 22–27 to the return, and 27–30 to the invitation. Hermes should supply the actual shot and cue plan; this outline is a starting constraint.

  • Story: can you explain what changed between the opening and ending?
  • Camera: does each move reveal a new detail or guide attention?
  • Sound: are page-turn foley, musical cues and deliberate silence timed to specific beats?
  • Voice and text: read the narration aloud and check subtitle holds on a phone-sized layout.
  • Continuity: keep the book, colors, character proportions and material rules consistent.

Shot durations must sum to the requested length. A written sound map describes intended audio; it does not produce a recording, a music license or a mixed soundtrack.

5. Revise a specific weakness

Revise the library film plan. The middle has too many reveals and the ending feels rushed.
Keep paper-popup as the only style and preserve the 30-second total. Use one clear discovery in the middle, then give the final invitation four seconds.
Make the book-opening sound the signature cue. Specify one moment of silence before the return, and duck music under narration.
Update the shot timings, subtitle holds and cue map together. Keep every design original. Return only the revised plan; do not produce or upload media.

For a language change, ask Hermes to rewrite narration and subtitles in the target language and retime them. Translating words without adjusting holds can leave the production brief impossible to follow.

6. Prepare the production handoff

Request one consolidated brief with the selected style slug, story, palette, typography, camera rules, timed shots, narration, sound cues, subtitles and asset requirements. An editor or separately installed rendering workflow can use this brief to create the actual video. Confirm its capabilities and dependencies before starting production.

The catalog package contains documentation plus its MIT license and attribution notice. It adds no executable production scripts, fonts, demo media or service keys. Its offline planning workflow needs no separate service account; Hermes still uses its configured model and normal usage credits. These package limits do not establish the safety of a renderer you add later.

If the skill asks for setup or cannot find a style

Confirm lemo-opuscar-direction is installed on the bot you are chatting with, then try a fresh conversation. Name the edition and ask Hermes to read references/INDEX.md and the chosen style card. If a bundled file is unavailable, ask for that limitation explicitly. The direction edition does not need the upstream bootstrap or engine; references to those components explain production ideas, not required setup steps.

Lemo-Opuscar FAQ

Does Lemo-Opuscar generate a finished film on my Hermes?

This catalog edition plans the film. It supplies a treatment, shot list, narration, sound cue map, subtitle plan and implementation brief. It contains no video renderer or finished demo assets.

Should I run the upstream bootstrap script?

That script belongs to the full upstream production workflow. It is excluded from this offline edition and is not required to follow this guide. Install the catalog edition from dashboard Skills.

Can I ask for Chinese narration or an English style name?

Yes. The index supports style names and slugs, and you can specify the output language in your brief. Check narration length and subtitle readability in the language you will actually use.

Do the style cards license the original demo music or artwork?

No. The edition includes adapted MIT documentation and attribution, with no demo media, fonts or character art. Use original designs and assets you have permission to use; a style reference does not grant rights to someone else’s film.
