Guide
Use Hermes Agent in ChatGPT and Claude
Add your hosted Hermes Agent bot to ChatGPT or Claude as a custom MCP connector. ChatGPT or Claude hands the task to your bot, and your bot answers with its own memory, skills and connected tools. One URL, an OAuth sign-in, and no extra server to run.
Checked on 15 October 2026 in ChatGPT (Pro plan). ChatGPT and Claude move their menus often; if a button name has changed, look for the option to add a custom MCP server or custom connector.
The short answer
On the dashboard, press MCP on your Hermes bot's card, open the ChatGPT / Claude tab and copy the Connector URL. In ChatGPT, open chatgpt.com/plugins, press Add, choose Add custom MCP server, paste the URL and create it. Sign in to OpenClaw Launch, press Allow, and ChatGPT can now ask your bot to do things.
What you get
The connector gives ChatGPT or Claude one tool, ask_bot. It sends a message to your Hermes bot and returns the bot's reply. Your bot does the work the same way it does in Telegram or WhatsApp: with its own model, its memory, the skills it has learned and the apps you connected to it, such as Gmail, Google Calendar or GitHub.
That makes it useful when you live in ChatGPT or Claude but your bot holds the context, for example:
- “Ask my bot what is on my calendar tomorrow.”
- “Have my bot add this to the project notes it keeps.”
- “Ask my bot to run its weekly report skill now.”
Your connector URL looks like https://openclawlaunch.com/api/mcp/<your bot id>. It is not a secret on its own: nothing can use it until you sign in and approve the app.
Before you start
- A Hermes Agent bot on OpenClaw Launch with an active plan or free trial, and the bot running.
- A ChatGPT plan that offers custom MCP servers (not Free), or any Claude plan.
- Bots created through the developer API, and bots resold to your own customers, cannot be connected this way.
Connect your bot to ChatGPT
- Open the dashboard, press MCP on your bot's card and copy the Connector URL from the ChatGPT / Claude tab.
- In ChatGPT, open chatgpt.com/plugins, press Add in the top right and choose Add custom MCP server.
- Give it a name, such as your bot's name, and paste the Connector URL under Connection. Leave Authentication on OAuth; you do not need the advanced OAuth settings.
- Tick I understand and want to continue, press Create as a plugin, then Continue.
- Sign in to OpenClaw Launch with the account that owns the bot, check the bot name on the page and press Allow. ChatGPT shows that the plugin is connected.
- Start a new chat and try it: “Use my bot to tell me what you can do.” You can name the plugin in your message if ChatGPT does not pick it up on its own.
Connect your bot to Claude
- Copy the same Connector URL from the bot's MCP window.
- In Claude, go to Customize, then Connectors, press + Add and choose Add custom connector.
- Paste the URL, add the connector, and press Connect.
- Sign in to OpenClaw Launch, check the bot name and press Allow.
On Claude Team and Enterprise, an owner first adds the connector under Organization settings, then Connectors; each member then connects it for themselves. On Claude Free you can have one custom connector.
Disconnect an app
Every app you approve is listed in the bot's MCP window with a Disconnect button. Disconnecting cuts off its access immediately. You can also remove the plugin or connector on the ChatGPT or Claude side, but disconnecting in the MCP window is what revokes the access.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| “This connector address is not for a bot on your account” | You signed in with a different OpenClaw Launch account than the one that owns the bot. Sign out, sign in with the owner account, and connect again. |
| “Connecting apps needs an active plan or trial” | Start a plan or trial on the billing page, then connect again. |
| “The bot is not running right now” | Start or wake the bot from the dashboard and ask again. |
| No Add custom MCP server option in ChatGPT | Your ChatGPT plan or workspace does not allow custom MCP servers. On a work workspace, ask the admin. |
| ChatGPT answers itself instead of asking your bot | Name the plugin in your message: “Use the <name> plugin to ask my bot …” |
MCP connector or Chat API?
The same MCP window has a second tab, Chat API. Use the connector for ChatGPT and Claude: it signs in with OAuth and needs no key. Use the Chat API when you want to reach your bot from your own code or a terminal client with an API key; the Chat API guide covers that.
Don't have a Hermes bot yet?
OpenClaw Launch runs Hermes Agent for you, with restarts, updates and chat apps handled from the dashboard, and it is live in under a minute. Lite is $3 for the first month, then $6 a month; Pro is $20 a month. There is a free 30-minute trial with no credit card, and the MCP connector works during the trial too.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use my Hermes Agent bot inside ChatGPT?
Yes. Every Hermes bot hosted on OpenClaw Launch has its own MCP Connector URL. Add it in ChatGPT at chatgpt.com/plugins with Add, then Add custom MCP server, sign in with OAuth, and ChatGPT gets an ask_bot tool that sends messages to your bot and returns its replies.
Does it cost extra?
No. The connector is included with every OpenClaw Launch plan and with the free trial. Your bot answers with its own model, so a request through ChatGPT or Claude uses the same AI credits as a message from any other chat app.
Do I need ChatGPT Developer mode?
Not any more. As of October 2026 a custom MCP server is added from chatgpt.com/plugins with Add, then Add custom MCP server. ChatGPT Free does not offer custom MCP servers. On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces an admin can turn custom connectors off, so ask them if the option is missing.
Does it work with Claude too?
Yes, with the same Connector URL. In Claude go to Customize, then Connectors, press + Add and choose Add custom connector. Claude offers custom connectors on Free (one connector), Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise; on Team and Enterprise an owner first adds the connector under Organization settings, then Connectors.
Does ChatGPT or Claude get my bot's API key?
No. They receive an access token that works for this one bot only, after you approve it on an OpenClaw Launch page that shows the bot name. Your bot's keys, provider credentials and chat-app tokens never leave our servers, and you can disconnect an app at any time from the MCP window on the bot's card.
Does my bot remember the conversation?
Yes. Messages sent through one connection continue the same conversation with your bot, so a follow-up question has the earlier context. Ask ChatGPT or Claude to start a new conversation with your bot when you want a fresh thread.
How long can one request take?
Up to just under five minutes per request, with messages of up to 20,000 characters. For longer jobs, ask your bot to start the work and send the result to your chat app when it is done.
