The Privacy Trade Is Real
Page Assist's strongest claim is straightforward and worth taking seriously: with a local model, nothing you type leaves your computer. No provider sees your prompts, no account is required, and there is no usage bill. For reading sensitive documents or working with material you cannot send to a third party, that is a genuine advantage and not one a hosted service can match.
What you pay for it is reach and capability. The assistant exists only in that browser on that machine — close the laptop and it is gone. And a model small enough to run comfortably on a laptop is not the same model as a frontier API model; for hard reasoning or long-context work the gap is noticeable.
