Compensation Benchmarker
Researches and structures competitive compensation packages by analyzing market data, role requirements, and total compensation components including base, bonus, equity, and benefits.
Usage
Provide the role title, level/seniority, location, industry, and company stage (startup, mid-market, enterprise). Specify what components you want to benchmark (base salary, bonus, equity, benefits).
Examples
- "Benchmark total compensation for a Senior Product Manager in San Francisco at a Series B startup"
- "Compare compensation packages for a DevOps Engineer across NYC, Austin, and remote positions"
- "Design a competitive compensation structure for a new VP of Sales role at a 100-person SaaS company"
Guidelines
- Compare total compensation (base + bonus + equity + benefits), not just base salary; packages vary widely in structure
- Adjust for cost of living when comparing across locations; $150K in San Francisco and $120K in Austin may be equivalent
- Consider company stage: startups compensate more with equity while enterprises offer higher base and benefits
- Benchmark against the market percentile that matches your hiring strategy: 50th for market rate, 75th for competitive
- Include non-monetary benefits (remote work, PTO, learning budgets) that increasingly influence candidate decisions
