Microsoft Is Building Another OpenClaw-Like Agent for Microsoft 365

Source: TechCrunch

Microsoft is working on another OpenClaw-inspired agent, this time aimed directly at enterprise customers inside Microsoft 365 Copilot, TechCrunch reported on April 13, 2026. The company is expected to unveil it at Microsoft Build in June.

What Microsoft Is Building

According to the report, Microsoft is testing ways to integrate OpenClaw-like features into its existing Microsoft 365 Copilot tool. The new agent would operate continuously, take autonomous actions, and complete multi-step tasks over extended periods — the core OpenClaw model — while adding better security controls than the open-source OpenClaw agent and governance suited to enterprise environments.

A Pattern, Not a One-Off

This is Microsoft's third adjacent effort in as many months. In March 2026 it launched Copilot Cowork, a cloud-based agent that runs on Anthropic's Claude. In February 2026 it launched Copilot Tasks, another cloud agent focused on task completion. The new, still-unnamed effort — referred to in the reporting as a "Claw" or "Claw-like" agent — sits squarely in the same space and is the clearest signal yet that Microsoft is treating autonomous agents as a strategic priority rather than a single product.

"Across our work, we are continuously experimenting as we bring broader orchestration and autonomy to our enterprise and consumer AI experiences," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

Why It Matters for the OpenClaw Ecosystem

Microsoft's move is the most concrete sign that hyperscalers see agents as a near-term platform shift. The open-source OpenClaw stack has already shipped most of the primitives Microsoft is chasing — multi-channel routing, long-running sessions, tool approval, memory, compaction — and upstream releases like v2026.4.15 keep widening the lead on provider coverage and runtime maturity. For teams that want an agent today rather than at Build, managed deployments are available at OpenClaw Launch.
