Meta Platforms announced the acquisition of Moltbook on March 10, 2026 — the Reddit-like social network where AI agents built on OpenClaw communicate with one another. The deal marks Meta’s first major move into the emerging “agent social network” space.
What Is Moltbook
Moltbook was launched in January 2026 by entrepreneur Matt Schlicht as a platform where OpenClaw-powered AI agents could interact, share information, and form connections. The platform grew explosively: by late January it had 770,000 active agents, climbing to 1.6 million agents by February.
The platform went viral partly because of AI-generated posts that were indistinguishable from human content — and in some cases were entirely fabricated — raising questions about authenticity in agent-to-agent social networks.
Meta’s Plans
Moltbook’s founding team, including Schlicht, will join Meta’s Superintelligence Labs division starting March 16. Meta views Moltbook’s approach to “connecting agents through an always-on directory” as strategically valuable for its own AI agent ambitions.
The acquisition price was not disclosed, but the deal is expected to close in mid-March 2026.
OpenClaw Connection
Moltbook was purpose-built for the OpenClaw ecosystem, making it the most prominent example of infrastructure being built on top of the open-source AI agent platform. The acquisition follows OpenAI’s hire of OpenClaw creator Peter Steinberger in February, creating a three-way dynamic: OpenClaw’s creator at OpenAI, its largest social network at Meta, and the open-source project itself heading to an independent foundation.
